Field lab Broddbo - Sand trial on peat soil

Objective
I investigate how foundry sand addition affects GHG emissions, yield and trafficability on peat soil.
Description
0, 2.5 and 5 cm foundry sand was mixed into the top 10-15 cm layer of well-decomposed fen peat. Three replicates. Timothy is growing on the plots. We have measured GHG emission, water content, soil temperature and penetration resistance.

History
The area was drained starting in the 1840s. I has been a pasture before we used it as research fields.
Management
The treatments 0, 2.5 and 5 cm addition of foundry sand is repeated in three blocks. Timothy is grown on the 4 m * 8 m plots. The plots are harvested with two cuts and fertilised with mineral fertiliser. 2*50 kg N as NPK 11-5-18. Yield is measured from 2 cuts. Some years GHG emissions, water content, soil temperature, soil moisture and penetration resistance are measured.
